As the U.S. economy recovers, and especially as the shipping season approaches in the second half of the year, U.S. companies are restocking from overseas, especially from China.
According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs of China, bilateral trade between China and the US reached 2.21 trillion yuan in the first six months of this year, with the US importing goods worth 1.64 trillion yuan from the Chinese market, up 31.7% year on year.
These goods mainly included mechanical and electrical products (computers, mobile phones and home appliances, etc.) and labor-intensive products (clothing, plastic products, etc.), with a total transaction value of 1.01 trillion yuan and 372.2 billion yuan respectively.
According to the latest data released by Descartes Datamyne, the volume of 20-foot containers shipped from Asia to the United States reached about 10.037 million in the first half of 2021, setting the highest record in nearly 17 years.
Among the containers sent from Asia to the United States, by region, China's transport volume accounted for 60%, an increase of 51% year-on-year.
It is worth noting that since June, US retailers have begun to book space for the shopping season at the end of the year, making the shipping market enter the peak season three months earlier than in previous years. With the arrival of the peak season, market capacity will become more tense in the next three months.
