At the same time, the production scale and total consumption of China's walnuts are very impressive. At present, China's walnut output accounts for 60% of the world's total. The planting area is 120 million mu, ranking first in the world, with an annual output exceeding 4 million tons. The walnut industry has become the tree species with the highest yield and the most promising development potential among woody oil plants. In recent years, the total consumption of walnuts has increased significantly. In 2017, China consumed 1.045 million tons of walnuts, accounting for about 48% of the world's total, and was the country with the highest consumption of walnuts in the world.

Walnut is not only the raw material of high-end dried nuts and food industry, but also the raw material of high-quality edible oil. In 2019, China's oil consumption reached 39.5 million tons, and the market scale will exceed 700 billion yuan, which is expected to exceed one trillion yuan soon.

"The country has been vigorously promoting the development of woody oils to solve the strategic safety issues of China's grain and oil. Currently, walnut oil plays an important role in the development of woody oils." said Yang Yuling, head of the national brand project of Xinhua News Agency.

Zhang Jian, a researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control, said that with the increase of consumption, walnut oil will have an increasingly greater impact on the quality of dietary fat, and reasonable consumption of walnut oil help maintain health. Therefore, walnut oil is the most promising woody oil that is in line with the development of China's oil industry, and will help fill the gap in China's edible oils field.

Some research reports pointed out that walnut oil, walnut protein and peptides are deep processed products with good walnut resources in China, which are in line with the development prospects of walnut resources.
