The new study included 34 randomized clinical trials on a total of 1677 participants. The researchers compared the different effects of walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, cashews, and almonds on blood lipids. The results found that the diet rich in pistachios performed best in reducing triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol; the diet rich in walnuts ranked second in reducing triglycerides and total cholesterol; In terms of density lipoprotein cholesterol, a diet rich in almonds is inferior to pistachios.

The researchers pointed out that the potential reasons for the beneficial effects of nuts on blood lipids may involve the following aspects: the high content of unsaturated fatty acids in nuts, and the presence of many bioactive compounds, such as phytosterols and antioxidants. These unique nutrients help nuts control lipids and improve lipid metabolism. Although nuts are good, we should pay attention to the consumption amount. A small amount per day can avoid excessive calories.
